Charlie isn’t a barker, I can probably count on one hand the amount of times I’ve actually heard him bark, so when he does it’s very strange. The most random things have triggered this so I thought I would share on here:
1. A big bag full of Christmas presents
We were visiting family just before Christmas and we were just relaxing in the lounge. My mother in law walked in with a big bag full of Christmas presents and that’s when Charlie had his first bark. I’m not sure who was more surprised, us or him!
2. Microwave popcorn
Last week we had a bag of popcorn in the microwave, which sent Charlie into a little tiz. He kept running into the kitchen, barking at the microwave and running back into the dining room and hiding under the table. He definitely didn’t like that one! (Although he didn’t mind the popcorn itself, we later found him helping himself to the unpopped kernels left in the bowl).
3. The mating call of the mountain chicken frog
Maybe the most random one… We were watching a TV programme about life at Chester Zoo, where they were trying to mate mountain chicken frogs. They had recording the sound of the mating call and were playing it to try to encourage them. Charlie had been asleep on his bed, but as soon as the sound started he jumped up and started barking at the TV. He was pacing the living room and was very tense until the noise stopped. He then seemed on high alert all evening. Note to self: keep all mating mountain chicken frogs away from the house…
Does your dog bark at random things? I’d love you to share in the comments below!
