Firstly, I’m sorry for the lack of posts lately, we’ve been super busy! My husband has been away so Charlie and I went up to York to visit my friends and family for 2 weeks. We were kept very busy and didn’t have a chance to sit down and write anything.
So Charlie is now 6 months old. I feel like that is some kind of milestone – half a year?! I still think he looks very puppy like, but when I look back at pictures from when we first got him I can’t believe how much he has changed.
Staying in York meant we had to find somewhere different for walks every day, not just our usual wander around the woods near us. We actually found that if we walked by the river, out of town, then we soon came across lots of wide open space and a nice long walk along Clifton Ings. My mum came on our walks every day too, which was really nice for me to have some company for a change. There were lots of other dog walkers here too, which meant Charlie got to play with lots of new dogs and got lots of attention. One guy even described Charlie as a heart breaker as he is so cute!
The only thing about walking here is that because York flooded a lot over winter, the ground on either side of the path was very muddy. It’s a clay like mud that just sticks to Charlie, and as he likes to run super fast and chase the birds, there wasn’t a single day that he didn’t need a bath when we got back. This from a puppy that has only ever had 2 baths in his life… Thank goodness for my mum being there to help as I don’t think I could have done it on my own.
Where I normally walk Charlie at home, we jump in the car to get there, so he is only on the lead for a couple of minutes at the beginning of the walk to make sure we are away from the road and the car park, so being totally honest Charlie hasn’t had much lead training at all. The walks we were doing in York involved a lot more by the road to get down to the river, so lots more time on the lead! Charlie pulls. A lot. I believe it is a Spaniel thing, but he’s getting to be quite a strong little boy! I invested in a new lead, which has a bit to go over his nose and is made to stop them pulling, and oh my it is amazing! I fully recommend this is you have a dog that pulls a lot!
We also spent a weekend in the Cotswolds last weekend, so I’ll write a separate post on that as I don’t want this one to be too long!
I haven’t actually taken loads of pictures, but here a few recent ones. I’ve been getting into snapchat recently, and often post pictures and videos of Charlie on there, so if you are interested my username is naomi_parry
