For our first Californian mini adventure, we headed up the mountains to Big Bear Lake. I had been recommended by a friend who had visited a couple of weeks ago as a good place to take dogs, so we booked a cabin and went the next day.
We booked a really basic cabin, within walking distance of the village and the lake. It was pet friendly, and although in need of some modernisation, it had everything we needed for a short break.
It was so nice to get away for the weekend, there isn’t much to do where we live, and no interesting places to walk Charlie, so we picked Big Bear as it was somewhere we could take him on lots of walks.
The village is really nice, with plenty of shops, bars, restaurants etc, with a few places that you can sit outside to eat where they let you take the pooch. There were also a few really lovely pet shops, so Charlie got a few treats along the way! They go all out decorating for Halloween and Autumn (sorry, fall…) in the US, and there were scarecrows and pumpkins all over the village which was fun to see.
The lake is a lovely to place to walk around. The US is very different to the UK in that you have to have dogs on a lead all the time, unless it is a specific fenced off dog park. It is a real change for us as I am so used to walking Charlie off the lead every day back in the UK! When we went down to the lake there was someone else with their dog off lead playing in the water, so we let Charlie off too and they had a great time playing together. I worry Charlie isn’t going to get the exercise he is used to back home, so it was great to see him charging round, and still good with his recall!
I took plenty of pictures in the village and by the lake, I hope you enjoy 🙂
