Life in California

Hi all! I hope you have had a lovely weekend. We’re settling into our new home and way of life quite well. Charlie has been with us out here for about a month now, and we’ve had a few ups and downs but we’re getting there! It’s quite different to the life we had in Norfolk, so we’ve had an adjusting period, but things seem to have found a new normal.

I’ve found somewhere I can walk Charlie every day and let him off the lead. Near to where live is a section of the California Aqueduct, and it’s a nice place to be able to take him, that isn’t near any roads or traffic. I’ve also never seen anyone else there, so I can let him off the lead (I’m not sure I’m supposed to, but never mind!!). You can see for miles so if I do see anyone coming it’s really easy to get Charlie on the lead before anyone comes close.

It was something I was really worried about when we first got here, as the rules in America are quite different to the UK. You can’t let dogs off the lead unless in a specific designated off-leash dog park. As it’s something we did every day in the UK, I knew Charlie wouldn’t get enough exercise if I didn’t find somewhere he could run until his hearts content. I also didn’t want to lose the recall training, as he is always great at coming back. Luckily we are happy with the aqueduct at the moment, so I took my camera down there a couple of times this week. One just after sunset (I got there slightly too late to catch it) and another in the morning sunshine.

I hope you enjoy the pictures of Charlie, as you can see it’s a very different surrounding to our previous walks in the UK!English Working Cocker Spaniel English Working Cocker Spaniel English Working Cocker Spaniel English Working Cocker Spaniel California Aqueduct, Palmdale
